OmniAmerican Bank History

OmniAmerican looks forward to another 50 years of providing outstanding products and services! We’ve come so far and are very proud of our history, but how did we get where we are today?

OmniAmerican was originally chartered on November 27, 1956 with the goal of serving the active and retired military personnel of Carswell Air Force Base. Seven individuals, with a combined contribution of only $35, founded the original financial institution, Carswell Federal Credit Union.

In the early 1980's, the Credit Union charter was expanded to include other defense related companies. In 1992, the Credit Union unveiled its new identity as OmniAmerican Federal Credit Union, a name that more accurately reflected the association of all members and sponsor groups.

In early 2001, OmniAmerican Federal Credit Union began the process of converting from a federal to a state chartered institution. The goal of this transition was to create additional growth opportunities for the Credit Union, which, in turn, would allow better services and additional product offerings. On May 1, 2001, OmniAmerican Federal Credit Union successfully transitioned into its new charter and was renamed OmniAmerican Credit Union.

OmniAmerican Credit Union became OmniAmerican Bank on January 1, 2006 and began operating as a thrift under the Office of Thrift Supervision. This exciting transformation, five decades in the making, brings our future into focus with expanded commercial and mortgage capabilities. OmniAmerican has 17 offices in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Offices are located in Fort Worth, Grapevine, Euless, Arlington, Watauga, Las Colinas, Lewisville, Granbury, Cleburne, Weatherford and Dallas.

The OmniAmerican Bank of today is a full-service financial institution with managed assets over $1 billion. We continue our commitment to the communities we serve by enhancing the quality of life for our customers with comprehensive products, exceptional service and a dedication to the safety and soundness of the institution. OmniAmerican’s first brick and mortar building (above) was originally built in the 1960s at Carswell Air Force Base. A second story was added in the 1970s. Still in use today, this is “Branch #1” of OmniAmerican’s 17 Metroplex offices.

OmniAmerican acquired University Centre II in 2003. In addition to being the flagship for Business and Commercial Services, the OmniAmerican Mortgage Group and OmniAmerican Financial Services, UCII also houses a full service branch office.
